PHOTOS AND WORDS: JACOB KARLIN '17, ARTS EDITOR
Last Spring Break I went home to Los Angeles and photographed the city for Photo I. Los Angeles is a seductively dirty and unkempt place. It is a wild, tense city with countless cultures and religious groups. Angelinos have an inherent curiosity of the unusual and are determined to make the foreign familiar. It is a beautiful, literally unnatural place: a city born of the desert that lives on cultural contradictions and irrigated water but manages to thrive regardless. The magnificent beauty of Main Street has inspired me in various ways, but it's been Los Angeles that has birthed my interest in street photography, and I am excited to shoot more of it.
