I love Sean Winnik. Maybe because we sat through a six hour Wagner opera together or maybe because he was the only other non-Theater major in our “PostmodernTransatlanticDramaticLiterature” class or maybe because this one time he took me to a taco truck in LA and it was delicious.
For general knowledge, he’s a grad student studying neuroscience and a staff writer for Method. And he’s from Encino, a suburb in LA. Which he’ll tell you sucks.
He was in the campus noisecore band Let's Party Hats! Hats! Hats with Adam Johnson and Nate Repasz who looked like this when they played:
and released a music video:
But Sean is also an experimental composer; he's currently working on “The Sculpture Preludes” which are sonic experiments using things like wine jugs, copper tubing and D-batteries that you can listen to here.
He also wrote a book for Stethoscope Press which had poems like this one:
But his real job is working in the Gloster Aaron lab on campus examining the cellular mechanisms that generate and cement the stereotyped neural pathways found in epilepsy.*
*a sentence I copied from his LinkedIn because I’ve asked too many times for it to be cute that I don’t actually know what he does.
